Cooler than normal temperatures as we head into May, plus a very dry April

Image
The last month or so has felt quite average in temperatures. But rainfall has hardly been noticed. Most of the month, our "April Showers" were absent, including a 10-day dry stretch between the 10th of April and the 20th. On the 20th, we started out with glorious sunshine and a temperature zoom-up to 74F at Boeing Field, before crashing later in the day when a cold front moved in bringing light rain and heavier winds. April as a whole was dry, notching less than 50% of average rainfall. Finally, the 25th brought much-needed moderate rain all day to the Puget Sound area, only getting as high as the low 50s. What is also quite notable is that sunshine and warmth was much more abundant this April than the last two. I really like the ACIS map for showing the percentage of normal precipitation, it gives a nice visual of the region we live in. Seattle and the Kitsap Peninsula were quite dry, as well as much of the colmbia basin. A small portion of Eastern Washington, as well as th...

The Most Perfect Weather In The World Is Seattle In July, So Stop Complaining

After a jumpstart into summer in May this year with the 15th reaching 90F in many locations in the Puget Sound, and following a dry winter and late spring, it made people concerned. Would there be a 100 degree day in July? Would we have a horrible wildfire year? The past year or so has been on the drier side of the median for sure, and July was no exception. But the air has been clean and... less "sticky" than normal. A good portion of the time it has been accompanied by a nice breeze. At times it's felt like early Fall. And the nights have been incredibly bearable this year. I've barely even used a fan. It's been magical this year. And there are a few reasons to prove it. Reason #1. No Major Wildfires in Washington State or Oregon I think this is the big reason that I will say is important, but it wasn't quite perfect. July 4th started out already with Moderate air quality from smoke aloft from Canada wildfires, which didn't mix too much to the surface. ...

First weather blog, and an update about the week

Image
Hey everybody, I've decided to start running a weather blog covering the Seattle area, and occasionally weather-related news stories that reach outside Washington State. I have no idea in the world how frequent I am going to post, but my goal to begin with is weekly or a couple times a week.  Now there is so many past-weather related blogs I want to create as well as present weather. I definitely will have certain blogs that discuss past events and why/how they happened. My favorite type of Seattle weather, this one could be controversial, but I love it when it's June but it's cold and raining like it's April. The famous "June Gloom" has a special place in my heart. I love it. Not a big fan when it's cloudy in December though lol. I will briefly talk about some of the background of the weather here in the past year, and then talk about the week ahead. This year, 2022, has been nothing short of weird. Obviously our spring was heavily influenced by the La N...
